Comments
Initially, the subdued aroma from our glasses did not tell us much about the wine. However, one sip provided a delightful mouthful of flavor. Smooth and complex, our wine had soft fruity notes of raspberry and cherry well balanced with vanilla rich oak and finished with a nice wash of light acids. This wine opens up really well with decanting to provide a very tasty Pinot Noir with depth of flavor, good balance and all at a very reasonable price.

Our meal featured a thick grilled veal chop that was marinated in Tuscan flavors of garlic, rosemary, sage and olive oil. Along with that was a large chopped salad with fresh crispy vegetables, Fontina cheese and a combination of wine loving dressings. This was an easy to prepare meal that was light on fats and calories, but pleasant on the tongue with appetite satisfying texture and flavor.

The Pinot Noir complimented the chop with no problem, maintaining its rich berry personality while blending nicely with the herbal flavors of the meat. A sprinkling of sea salt to liven up the flavors had no effect on the wine. When paired with the salad, again the wine worked well, blending with the smooth dressing and tasty vegetable/cheese combination. I think it was a real plus for this red wine that it matched so well with the salad instead of becoming sour or tannic. The chop and salad went well together and the addition of the wine produced a very enjoyable harmony.

This clear ruby red wine was full and delicious before, during and even after the food was gone. For a red, it pairs extremely well with a wide range of foods and loves fat. We gave it high marks for versatility, complexity of flavor and the ability to maintain its character while blending well with the food. Clearly a wine to always have on hand.

This food and wine pairing is a real treat!
